Emily Thompson

Emily Thompson was for ten years the Director of Arts programs in Wiesbaden Germany for the U.S. Army, winning several European and World-wide awards. Ms Thompson studied art with Joseph Fitzpatrick at The Carnegie in Pittsburgh, with New Orleans design, Frances Coleman, and properties design at the American conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. She is the daughter of SF Bay Area artist, Zoe Thompson, and sister of artist, Marte Thompson.

She paints in 0il, acrylic and watercolor; draws in pencil, pen and pastels, and has won several awards in these varied mediums. Ms Thompson teaches art to young artists seven to seventeen, finding satisfaction in their eagerness and progress. She also teaches adults through Central Carolina Community College.

Emily Thompson published her book, “Basics of Art and the Elements of Design”.  It’s a basic education course in drawing following the elements of design; composition, perspective, etc. written in simple language with young artists in mind, though it’s good for adults, too. She teaches this course privately and through the Central Carolina Community College (search for Basics of Art).

Additionally, she recently won six awards at the Sanford Brush and Palette Club Annual Art Show!  Three place awards and three honorable mentions.

“Last Light” by Susan Mayfield

January 13 – Susan Mayfield Demo / Mini-Workshop
Susan Mayfield is an award winning artist known for her use of color and light in her pastels and oils. Susan explores and interprets the landscape, wherever she finds herself. Her work has focused on the incredible wild places in and around the canyon country of the Southwest with particular emphasis on the rivers that carved them. She divides her time between the high mountain desert and the big open skies of Colorado and the semi-tropical coastline of South Carolina and finds the dynamic contrasts between these two places. On behalf of the PSNC members I would like to give a very warm thank you to our gracious hosts, Luana and Doug Winner. We had a wonderful party at their lovely home.
