Latest Works

Short Stop’s Mitt and Ball: 9×11 charcoal and pastel drawing. This short stop’s mitt and baseball have been sitting on my husband’s dresser for a very long time. An occasion for a still life if there ever was one.

Old Dairy Road: 5.5×9″ soft pastel loose sketch. Exhibited at Captain White’s House – The Alamance Art Center 2021. Every morning, Brownie and Maggie and I walk this old dirt road. The original settler family had a dairy at the end of this road. History, art and a dog walk – all together – life is good.

Farm Textures: 12×18″ hard pastel. Exhibited at Captain White’s House – The Alamance Art Center in Autumn 2021. Old Basket, bricks, branches and black wasps from our farm. The bricks are from an 1850’s building razed in 2015. They are called “clinkers” because they were over baked.

Northumberland Beach: 9×11 Soft Pastel. Exhibited at Captain White’s House The Alamance Art Center. Sold.

November 29, 2018

Emily Thompson published her book, “Basics of Art and the Elements of Design”.  It’s a basic education course in drawing following the elements of design; composition, perspective, etc. written in simple language with young artists in mind, though it’s good for adults, too. She teaches this course privately and through the Central Carolina Community College (search for Basics of Art).

Additionally, she recently won six awards at the Sanford Brush and Palette Club Annual Art Show!  Three place awards and three honorable mentions.

“Last Light” by Susan Mayfield

January 13 – Susan Mayfield Demo / Mini-Workshop
Susan Mayfield is an award winning artist known for her use of color and light in her pastels and oils. Susan explores and interprets the landscape, wherever she finds herself. Her work has focused on the incredible wild places in and around the canyon country of the Southwest with particular emphasis on the rivers that carved them. She divides her time between the high mountain desert and the big open skies of Colorado and the semi-tropical coastline of South Carolina and finds the dynamic contrasts between these two places. Meeting Photos

March 10 – Artists’ Tips
The March 10th program will be about sharing tips we have learned along the way. Come, share and learn about painting techniques, favorite pastels, favorite grounds, safety gear and equipment. Share the new directions you are taking with your pastels.
Participants are encouraged to bring samples so that members can have first hand experience with the materials.

Botanical Gardens.

On behalf of the PSNC members I would like to give a very warm thank you to our gracious hosts, Luana and Doug Winner. We had a wonderful party at their lovely home.
