I created my first pet portrait at ten years old when my calico cat gave birth to three kittens in my closet. Years later I won first place at the NC State Fair for depicting another pet calico in pastel.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts at NYIT and a Master’s in Art Education at LIU, CW Post Campus, NY.  After relocating to North Carolina, I taught art in both the public and private schools.  But it wasn’t until I took a pastel portrait class that I found my passion for pastels and portraits.

Pastel quickly became an obsession. Creating pet and people portraits was both personally satisfying and successful.

Word of mouth commission work keeps me busy these days as well as attending workshops in portraiture and landscapes in both pastel and oils. I occasionally teach privately or at a local art center as well as practice painting from a live model with a local portrait group.

You can find my work at the Cary Gallery of Artists, Fusions Gallery in Pittsboro, local art shows, and the Fine Art League of Cary (FALC).

Awards include FALC Shows, the NC State Fair and Local Color Gallery’s Plein Air contest in Raleigh. One-woman shows have been at Jordan Hall Art Center in 2002, Studio 123, Apex in 2003, Apex Gallery in 2004 and the Carolina Silver Co. in both Cary and Raleigh 2005. Cary News “Names and Faces” Aug. 1, 2002 featured my pastel portrait work, as did the Apex Herald that same year. Cary Magazine featured me in their Sept/Oct 2006 Perspective Page.

I currently reside in Cary, NC with my husband Eric and my Bichon Frise Summer.
