Patricia Bevan I am a scientist who has always loved drawing and painting. Several years ago I completed a Bachelors Degree in Painting and Drawing from Virginia Tech and began to paint full time. I have studied with a variety of artists including Vera Dickerson and Mary Jane Burch of The Studio School in Roanoke, Virginia and nationally known artists Daniel Greene and Louise Cadillac. Currently I am mentoring with Dawn Emerson a renowned pastel artist from the state of Oregon. Since I began painting I have worked in many mediums but soft pastel is my favorite. I like its range of qualities - from the graphic feel of hard pastel sticks to the buttery sensation of the softest pastel brands. I also like the immediacy of its vibrant colors, which I use both "alla prima" and layered to produce subtle hues and values that seem to vibrate with energy. My paintings are an expression of my feelings about the natural world, the beauty that I find in landscapes, animals, and everyday household items. I approach my subjects from my inspiration of line, form, color and light that they provide. I look to capture the character of my subject rather than precise details, whether that be the unique personality of an equine, the subtle or vibrant energy of a landscape, or the simplicity, even in complexity, of a still life arrangement. My landscape work is represented by the George Billis Gallery in New York City. |
