Betty Hendrix Workshop in Glendale Springs, NC

The Appalachian Pastel Society’s Second National Juried Exhibition and Artist Workshop

The Appalachian Pastel Society has announced that their second National Juried Exhibition will be from October 20 – November 13, 2010. In conjunction with this show, Ann Templeton will be teaching a workshop on Abstracting the Landscape in Pastels from October 14-18, 2010. In addition to cash awards, including the $1,000 Best of Show award, there will be some fabulous prizes including pastel sets, other art supplies and product certificates.

This 6-week Wednesday afternoon class is for the student who wants to learn more about soft pastes, sanded surfaces, the importance of value, and color harmony. We will be working on landscape from photos, and still-life from life.

The Piedmont Pastel Society is sponsoring a three day Landscape Workshop with Maggie Price. The workshop is open to beginners and experienced artists. In the workshop, you will learn how to master the techniques of this vibrant and versatile medium and watch inspiring step- by- step demonstrations from Maggie’s easel. Date: Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th from 10am to 5pm
Cost: $185.00, Fee may be paid by mailing check or requesting PayPal invoice for Credit Card.

This color mixing class will give you confidence to create beautiful skin tones for future portrait and figure work. Study includes general ethnicities and distinctive color families. Each chart will contain color formulas for: skin in shadow, local color, and in light; hair in shadow, light, and highlight; lips.

Oil / Acrylic / Pastel colors will be forwarded as you sign up. Chart paper will be supplied at the class.

A palette knife will be needed – some will be available for use. Please bring a sharpie, ruler, sketch book for notes, and drawing pencil.

Space for six students in the studio.

Sierra Pastel Society’s 7th International Art Exhibition

The Sierra Pastel Society is proud to present its 7th International Art Exhibition, “Pastels on High,” October 5 to October 25, 2008 in El Dorado Hills, California. The judge and juror is Urania Christy Tarbet, a local and internationally recognized artist (and founder of the International Association of Pastel Artists, IAPS).

Best of show award is $1000 cash and total awards are now over $6000 in cash, merchandise, and nationally recognized artists’ workshop opportunities. Download a copy of the prospectus.

Jack Pardue, plein air workshop in Murfreesboro, NC

Pastelist Jack Pardue will conducting a plein air workshop in Murfreesboro, North Carolina from May 5-9, 2008.

Murfreesboro is a beautiful little river town located between Roanoke Rapids, NC and Elizabeth City, NC and is home to a lovely historic district offering many wonderful places for plein air painting. The cost of the workshop is $400.00 but Jack has agreed to offer a 10% discount to any member of the Pastel Society of NC.
