I am a native of Pennsylvania where I studied oil painting with Isabel Hepler for several years, then accumulated science degrees from George Mason University and UNC-CH. I now live in Raleigh where I have recently taken workshops with Christine MacLellan, L. Diane Johnson, Luana Luconi Winner, Caroline Jasper, and Sean Dye. Having painted exclusively in oils in the past, I am now exploring pastels. I truly love the vibrant colors and immediacy of pastels and further love painting landscapes en plein air.

Impressionism is the art movement that most deeply resonates within me. It is a point of departure for my work, which can be representational or approaching expressionism, depending on my emotional reaction to the subject I am painting. My feelings about art are eloquently described by Robert Henri:

“There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom. If one could but recall this vision by some sort of sign. It was in this hope that the arts were invented. Sign-posts on the way to what may be. Sign-posts toward greater knowledge.”

PSNC Photo Depot

All of us have trouble finding good reference photos from time to time, so we have decided to build a repository of copyright-free images donated by our members. Anyone who wishes to participate may bring as many 5x7 or 8x10 color prints of any photo they wish to release permission to use to our monthly meetings. There will be no cost to use the photos and therefore no compensation to the photographer. By sharing in this way, we can all become better artists. We hope you'll contribute to this resource!
