Painting out of doors can be either exhilarating or daunting. While painting in plein air Wendy tries to create a painting that is tranquil by incorporating the exhilarating things that attracted her to the scene and editing the daunting down to the essential elements. Her goal is to paint an image where the viewer can feel that the fast pace of our technologically filled lives can be left behind; a subject that will evoke a feeling of place where the viewer is not pulled in a million directions. When painting in the studio from photographs Wendy tries to remember the mood the location evoked, what the day was like and the sounds she heard and uses these memories to create a painting that will be reminiscent of her plein air work.
