PSNC member Diana L. Coidan was accepted into the Kinston Community Council for the Arts 28th Annual National Competitive Exhibition with a pastel entitled “Ducky at Turner Creek”.
Show runs from March 12 through May 2, 2009. There will be a reception at 400 North Queen Street in Kinston, NC on March 12th from 6-8pm.
“Exploring Soft Pastels”
This 6-week Wednesday afternoon class is for the student who wants to learn more about soft pastes, sanded surfaces, the importance of value, and color harmony. We will be working on landscape from photos, and still-life from life.

PSNC artist Lorie Callahan is teaching an introduction to soft pastels class on Wednesdays from 1-3pm on March 18 through April 22 (6 weeks). The class includes soft pastel painting techniques, papers, methods of framing and the history of pastel. Also included; the importance of values, drawing, understanding color theory and keys to good composition
Some experience with drawing is helpful but beginners and continuing education students are welcome. Open to both seniors and the general public.
The cost of this class is $60 and interested artists can obtain materials list at the new North Orange County Senior Center in Hillsborough prior to first class. For registration call (919) 245-2015.

“Sometimes You Just Have To Jump,” an exhibition of new artwork by PSNC member, Melissa Walker, will be at the Sarah Smith Self Gallery, Moring Arts Center, 123 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC from February 3-28, 2009.

Call for Artists – The Fine Arts League of Cary is seeking entries for its 15th Annual Juried Art Exhibition to be held from May 8th to June 27th, 2009 at Hope Community Church (821 Buck Jones Rd) in Raleigh.
Show awards and purchase awards will total over $5,000. Changes for 2009: Entries can only be sent in electronically via CD. The postmark deadline for the mail-in registration is March 27, 2009.

The Artist’s Magazine has issued a “Call for Entries” for its 26th annual 2009 Art Competition.
Cash Prizes:
Winners will be featured and finalists’ names will be published in the December 2009 issue of The Artist’s Magazine. 13 finalists will be featured in The Artist’s Magazine‘s 2009 Calendar. Additionally, nine finalists will be featured in the “Competition Spotlight” in The Artist’s Magazine, 12 finalists will be featured as “Artist of the Month” on our website, and all winners and finalists will receive a certificate.
Entries must be postmarked by May 1, 2009.

Call for Artists, FedEx Global Education Center Exhibitions

The FedEx Global Education Center (GEC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is now accepting proposals from artists wishing to display work in the Center during the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 academic years. Proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis and will be reviewed by the Art Committee which meets quarterly.
Proposals should be submitted via mail to FedEx Global Education Center, Laura Griest, Campus Box 3268,
Chapel Hill, NC 27599 or hand delivered to the Center located at 301 Pittsboro Street (corner of Pittsboro & McCauley Streets). The committee consists of representatives from the Global Education Center who are dedicated to global education through the arts.

Building Information:
The gallery space within the GEC is housed on three levels and contains approximately 12 to 14 linear feet on each of the five walls in the space (one wall on the first floor and two walls on the second and third floors). Most exhibitions should utilize all three levels of the gallery space, but exhibitors may share gallery space on some occasions. Glass display cases (approximately 11.5’W x 8.5’H x 18”D) containing maple pedestals (14” squared, 2 in each height – 2’, 3’, and 4’) in the Center’s atrium may also be used to highlight 3-D work.
Artists may provide contact information for those wishing to purchase artwork, but prices cannot be listed.
The Global Education Center cannot be responsible for the security of artwork, though some pieces may be covered by the University’s fine arts policy.
Exhibitions typically show an average of one to three months.
