Mr. Tom Dowd of Jerry’s Artarama visited with us. He spoke about pastel products carried by Jerry’s, particularly their line of Mungyo pastels. This was a great opportunity to learn about these soft and hard pastels that have been getting rave reviews.

ON COMMON GROUND 2014: Pastel Paintings From the Mountains to the Sea
From: The Piedmont Pastel Society, Host, and the 2014 Team:
The 2014 Team of the 3rd Annual NC Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition thanks you for submitting your work to the 2014 NC Statewide Pastel Exhibition. Mr. Melberg gave equitable time to the selections for the exhibition. All of the entries were very good, and in previewing them our team was really impressed with the quality of the work! There were 251 paintings from 97 artists entered, and 90 paintings have been accepted for the exhibit.
The three North Carolina Pastel Societies have the finest artists anywhere! Let’s keep on painting what we love, as Fred Somers says, and walk in the light!
From: Mr. Jerald Melberg, Juror of Entries and Judge of Awards:
“In the last forty years I have probably judged over one hundred juried exhibitions. I always approach them the same fashion. I bring my collective experience of looking at, and dealing with, art as a profession. I compare what I know with what I am seeing in each particular judging process. I then must judge the particular exhibition in front of me only against itself. In other words, I must choose the best works of art from those that have been submitted. I believe I have done so once again with the third annual North Carolina Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition.” — Jerald L. Melberg, March 2014
Sincerely,
Mona Hearne, 2014 NC Statewide Chair
